A tribute to
great country music
ROSE
CITY, MI – Steve Armstrong was cruising down the
road one day with his nephew, Tyler, and happened to
pass a bar with a sign outside promoting beer for
just $1.25 on Saturday nights.
“Obviously, they were advertising a drink special,”
Armstrong said, “but I kinda looked over to Tyler
and said, ‘Imagine if that sign said 25-cent beer.’”
He
could easily envision the sound of screeching breaks
and cars coming to a panic stop to veer into the
bar’s parking lot. And then it hit him: What if you
had a band named “25-Cent Beer?” And the bar hired
the band, and advertised it on the sign alongside
the road….?
“That’s pretty much what happened,” said Armstrong,
whose group, 25-Cent Beer, will perform before its
biggest crowd yet when thousands gather for the 8th
Annul Customer Appreciation Day Festival at M33
Access in Rose City.
The
seven-piece band is well-known around Bay City,
where it’s been playing the bar circuit and up-scale
private events for about 18 months. Its members:
Armstrong, of Bay City, rhythm guitar and vocals;
Carl Neveau, Bay City, rhythm guitar; Rick Smith,
Pontiac, guitar and bass; Russ Scripter, Bridgeport,
guitar, banjo mandolin fiddle, harp and keyboards;
Vicki Fellows, Plymouth, keyboard and vocals; Doug
Hetherington, Bridgeport, drums; and Bob Holtzapple,
Bridgeport, keyboards, guitar and banjo.
You
may have seen them at Striker or Madame Shelly’s in
Bay City, or the Silver Palace in suburban
Essexville, or perhaps the Moose Club or Eagles Club
or at a benefit at the Bay Harbor Marina.
If
you did, you’d remember 25-Cent Beer’s tributes to
some of the greatest stars in country music history,
including Johnny Cash, George Strait and Garth
Brooks. The group also performs some Jimmy Buffet
and mixes in a little blue grass for a change of
pace, as well.
We’re betting you’ll really enjoy it. In fact,
Armstrong jokes, the band has been so well-received
wherever it plays “that we haven’t had anybody
complain yet that there really isn’t any 25-cent
beer to be had.”
Neither will you won’t find any at that price at
M33’s Customer Appreciation Day festival, which is
always open to the public. But for a day full of
food, fun and family entertainment, followed by a
concert opening with 25-Cent Beer and continuing
with Eagles and AC/DC tribute bands and concluding
with a spectacular fireworks display, we’re
confident you’ll find the nominal admission fee to
be well worth the ticket price. (Of course, the
event is free for M33 Access customers.)
We
look forward to seeing you here at The Ranch in Rose
City for a great day of fun for everyone.
